Jose Segrera has more than 20 years of experience as a highly successful technology sector executive and entrepreneur. He is currently an investor and board member for early-stage, high-growth IT Infrastructure businesses and is an investor and a member of the board of directors of IndependenceIT (DaaS).
Segrera is also currently an investor and on the board of directors for Entic (SaaS-based Energy analytics and optimization) and Trapezoid (IT Infrastructure Security and Compliance).
From 2012 to 2014, Segrera was a member of the board of directors and chairman of the audit committee of Prolexic, the global leader of DDoS mitigation and protection services until its sale to Akamai Technologies for $400 million. From 2000 to 2011, he was the Chief Financial Officer at Terremark Worldwide. Terremark was traded on the NASDAQ Stock Market until its successful sale in 2011 to Verizon Communications in a transaction valued at $2 billion. From 1997 to 2000, he was the Corporate Controller and then Chief Financial Officer at FirstCom Corporation until its successful sale to AT&T in 2000. Segrera began his professional career in 1992 at KPMG.
Through experience gained at Terremark, a market-leading provider of IT and Cloud Infrastructure Services to Enterprise and government customers, and FirstCom, the first CLEC in Latin America that had operations in Chile, Peru and Colombia, Segrera has developed a deep set of expertise ranging from managing business operations and developing and implementing go-to-market strategies to corporate finance, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions and International business.

West has spent his career in the technology sector building brands that build companies, and played a key leadership role in two of the largest transactions in the cloud infrastructure-as-a-service industry.
He was formerly chief marketing officer for SoftLayer. Over a two year period he oversaw a brand repositioning that established the company as a global leader in cloud services, ultimately leading to its sale to IBM in 2013.
Prior to SoftLayer, West served as CMO for Terremark, where he executed a comprehensive brand re-launch, positioning the company as a brand leader in the managed services industry and at the forefront of the emerging cloud computing revolution. His efforts resulted in unprecedented brand awareness, industry recognition, revenue growth and sale of the company in 2011 to Verizon for $2 billion.
Previously, West spent 11 years with Data Return, where he was part of the initial start-up team and played an instrumental role in taking the company through foundational business planning, product definition and systems development, through the planning and execution of an Initial Public Offering.
West received his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Advisory Board MemberSince 2012 Phil has been an industry advisor with Avista Capital Partners. Prior to that Phil spent more than two decades at Verizon Communications, most recently as a Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. At Verizon, Phil worked on initiatives that spanned more than 20 countries and involved strategy, acquisitions, operating issues, valuation, cross-border currency, tax and regulatory issues. He also played a significant role in securing board, regulatory, and other necessary approvals in transactions. Prior to his role as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, he held a number of positions at Verizon, including Vice President, Corporate Development; Managing Director, Mergers and Acquisitions; and Managing Director, Financing Planning and Investment Analysis. He also founded Verizon Strategic Investments, the company’s venture capital operation. Phil was instrumental in building new companies and creating shareholder value through mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, organic investment, operating initiatives, and divestitures, totaling over $150 billion in the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Phil serves as a director of DataBank, Telular Corporation and WideOpenWest.

As Senior Vice President of Sales, Alvio Barrios leads the Enterprise Vertical Industries and Commercial businesses for the Americas where he is responsible for driving sales, services, and go-to-market strategy. Additionally, he is focused on strategy development and field execution through the company’s direct, indirect and distribution channels.
Barrios was appointed to this role in October 2011 and brings more than 24 years of experience in the telecommunications and technology sector. Most recently, he served as Vice President and General Manager for U.S. and Latin American markets at Ciena Communications where he was critical in the integration of the Nortel Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN) business. Prior to Ciena, he served at Nortel for 16 years, holding various executive positions with responsibility in Engineering, Marketing and Sales across different regions, expanding their mobility, enterprise, and networking segments.
Bringing his diverse background to Juniper, Barrios has led high performance teams focused on all major Service Provider and Enterprise customers. Leading sales for the Americas, he has demonstrated the ability to lead complex businesses globally, and develop innovative go-to-market strategies. Barrios has proven a successful track record of transforming organizations and driving profitable growth.
Barrios holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with honors from Florida International University and has completed several Executive Leadership programs. He is also the recipient of the 2009 Hispanic Engineers North American Conference Chairman’s award.
